COVID-19 Communication Update April 2021 - Protocols

Despite the community surge of the coronavirus, I am happy to report that our residents remain COVID-free. However, one employee tested positive this week. Please pray with me for that employee, that symptoms will be mild and short-lived. With virtually all residents vaccinated, we are not too concerned of further spread. However, the possibility exists, and so a new set of protocols needs to be enacted for at least two weeks – even longer, if more employees test positive. In compliance with CMS directives, all employees, residents and those family members or loved ones participating in in-person visits are required to wear N-95 or KN-95 masks for the two weeks following a positive COVID test result. …

COVID -19 Update - Clarification on RHC Visitation

As many of you already know, indoor visitation/angel garden has resumed here at Regina, to the relief and delight of residents and loved ones alike. All of us at RHC rejoice with you that we are able to witness many happy reunions. However, there are still restrictions regarding visitation; we have not received permission to resume “business as usual” as we knew it prior to the pandemic. Complicating this situation are comments made by Governor DeWine during a recent press briefing. Like us here at Regina and all of you, the Governor clearly longs for the day when restrictions will be lifted at nursing facilities. But it’s important to note that no new orders have been given; the visitation order issued by CMS and ODH continues to be the law of the land, until a new order is issued.…

COVID-19 Update: CMS has revised their guidance and indoor visitation is permitted once again!

CMS has revised their guidance and indoor visitation is permitted once again! Here is an excerpt taken directly from the CMS guidance: “…physical distancing (maintaining at least 6 feet between people) continues to be the safest way to prevent the spread of COVID-19, particularly if either party has not been fully vaccinated. However, we acknowledge the toll that separation and isolation has taken. We also acknowledge that there is no substitute for physical contact, such as the warm embrace between a resident and their loved one. Therefore, if the resident is fully vaccinated, they can choose to have close contact (including touch) with their visitor while wearing a well-fitting face mask and performing hand-hygiene before and after. Regardless, visitors should physically distance from other residents and staff in the facility.” This means that hugs are once again OK! …

COVID-19 Update: Much has been reported in the news recently

From the Executive Director: Much has been reported in the news recently about the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases across the state and the country. Concurrently, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) has amended their recommendations for individuals who have received the coronavirus vaccine. While all of this is welcome good news, please understand that Regina Health Center, as well as all licensed nursing facilities, operate under the direction of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). CMS alone has the discretion to adopt the CDC’s recommendations but, as of the time of my writing, neither CMS nor ODH has changed the COVID precautions nor amended any procedures for health care facilities.…

COVID-19 Update: A significant first step on our way back to normalcy

As a significant first step on our way back to normalcy, we will resume meal service in the dining rooms tomorrow, just in time for Mardi Gras. This will require face masks and social distanced seating, but residents who choose to do so will be able to share a conversation over a meal at a dining room table for the first time in many months. In a planned phase-in of less-restrictive measures, dining room meal service is a significant and important place to begin. …

COVID-19 Update: Sharing Some Good News

From the Executive Director: I am happy to be able to report that the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine is complete! Virtually all of the residents, and a majority of the employees, have received the second dose, with the balance to receive the second dose on February 1. I feel especially blessed when I consider that only a tiny fraction of the US population – just 1.2 million Americans – have received both doses of the vaccine. And there’s more good news to share: on our most recent coronavirus testing, all employees tested negative and just one resident tested positive.…

COVID-19 Update: Mixed News in Regard to Testing

From the Executive Director: Despite the promising results from the previous two weeks, it seems that the “holiday surge” may have caught up with us, as a number of employees have tested positive. I have always been confident – and I continue to be confident – that Regina Health Center employees take the coronavirus very seriously. We do so for ourselves and for the safety of our families, and we do so for the well-being of our residents. I have always been proud of how protective we are of our residents – and of each other.…

Most significantly, our most recent COVID testing results showed no new coronavirus cases among the residents! Also this week, both residents and employees were among the very first in Ohio to receive the coronavirus vaccine.…
